Dental Cleaning

Teeth cleaning is a preventive dental procedure performed by a dental hygienist. It involves the removal of tartar (mineralized plaque) that may develop even with careful brushing and flossing, especially in areas that are difficult to reach.

Our amazing hygienists will do everything to make your dental cleaning as pleasant as possible.

What happens during the physical examination?

+
-

A dental examination is a thorough evaluation of the soft tissue, periodontal tissue, and teeth. The examination is usually combined with the regular “teeth cleaning” visits scheduled with a dental hygienist. During the dental exam, Dr. Caz will screen for gum disease, tooth decay, oral cancer and ask about underlying medical conditions.

How is plaque and tartar removed?

+
-

Once the exam is done, the hygienist at Bayside Family Dentistry will use the small mirror for guidance and a scaler that will remove plaque and tartar from your gum line and between your teeth. You might hear scraping, but this is perfectly normal. The more tartar that’s in your mouth, the more scraping they’ll need to do.

If you hate this part, then you should consider brushing your teeth more. This will remove the plaque before it can turn into tartar.

What is the significance of professional flossing?

+
-

The hygienist will demonstrate how to get deep down between your teeth with flossing and hit any potential problem areas where you might usually bleed at the gum. You might think you don’t need this if you floss already at home but letting the professional do it will remove any extra tartar that’s left behind during the cleaning process.

How often should I schedule dental cleanings?

+
-

We recommend scheduling dental cleanings at least twice a year to maintain optimal oral health and prevent dental issues. However, the frequency may vary depending on individual needs and underlying dental conditions.

Is dental cleaning painful?

+
-

Dental cleaning procedures are typically not painful, though some individuals may experience slight discomfort during tartar removal or flossing. Our team prioritizes patient comfort and ensures a gentle yet effective cleaning process.
